Female Artists

About The Series

In the Jewish mystical tradition (Kabbalah), there is an ancient tradition, known as “Uplifting the Sparks”-- where hidden sparks of light are concealed in darkness, and each individual’s task is to uplift these hidden sparks. We take this as our starting point in bringing attention and giving new meaning to content that has been marginalized, excluded or forgotten. Through live performances, newsletters, magazines, and digital media interlaced with text based discourse, we bring new life to female artists, composers, thinkers that have been concealed by the shadows of history.

SHIUR Uplifting the Sparks with Ensemble Uno: An Immersive Multidisciplinary Experience

June 18, 2023. Munich

Amidst the stunning collection of Munich's Egyptian Museum (SMAEK) on June 18 SHIUR & Ensemble Uno showcased female composers of classical music that are lesser known because they were women, but deserve our attention because of their significant creative compositions.

The performance of music by composers Barbara Strozzi, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Germaine Tailleferre was integrated with text based discourse drawing on related themes and content, that breathed new meaning into the compositions and created a new form of interdisciplinary experience with music, text, discourse and space.

SHIUR by Micki Weinberg

Ensemble Uno: Yushan Li (viola), Melis Com (Harp) and Marie Maidowski (Soprano)

With generous support from Nevatim and the Swiss Consulate in Munich.
