Diplomatic Seder at the Swiss Embassy in Berlin

April 19, 2023

What happens when a group of ambassadors come together to explore an evening of traditions and text based discourse? What can diplomats gain from this ancient traditional discourse and what can this ancient traditional discourse gain from diplomats? Finding out was our goal when…

Ambassador Dr. Paul Seger hosted with Micki Weinberg a new, diplomatic, take on the traditional Jewish Passover Seder, attended by the ambassadors to Germany from Ireland, Liechtenstein, Kenya, El Salvador, Denmark and Romania as well as members from SHIUR. Rabbi of Hanover Shlomo Afanasev led us in the traditional Passover blessings.

Micki created a “Diplomatic Seder Dinner Haggadah”, a book with the traditional Passover texts & rituals (Haggadah) integrated with texts from poets and thinkers originating in the countries of the participating ambassadors—that led to a stimulating and innovative discourse amongst the participants—highlighting the value of cross-cultural literary and philosophical encounter in diplomatic spaces.
