Original Art

About The Series

SHIUR produces original art and music, engaging contemporary musicians, dancers & choreographers, light and sound artists, photographers, and other creatives with themes inspired by our discourses to create original works of art, music, dance, and more. We believe that all art is embedded in a literary-cultural context, and we seek to be proactive in producing original art for our times.

SHIUR 1700

SHIUR 1700 was conceived by SHIUR founder Micki Weinberg and produced by ID Festival specifically for the celebratory year 2021 as part of the Judisches Leben in Deutschland initiative on the occasion of the celebration of 1700 years of Jewish history and culture in the territory of present-day Germany.

Each video includes guided text based discourse (inspired by the traditional "shiur"), original art and performances related to Jewish-German themes and discourse.

SHIUR 1700 was born out of a deep concern about the fetishization and voyeuristic relationship to Judaism and Jewish life in Germany. SHIUR 1700 argues that there is a symbiotic relationship between German culture and Jewish culture—both have been influenced and have influenced one another. SHIUR 1700 proactively cultivates innovative content that reflects this interconnectedness to create something new and alive.
